visionTool FAQ
Got a Sprint phone with PCS Vision service? Want your own custom content? After extensive research, I've built a simple upload utility that will allow you to send an image or sound file from your computer to your phone.

having problems?
my web host made changes to the email system that are prohibiting email messages from getting to messaging.sprintpcs.com. so no more auto messages from the visionTool. now you have to go to the following URL:

http://t1mmy.net/v/[your phone number]

i.e.
http://t1mmy.net/v/2128675309

enjoy.

The visionTool custom upload page is here.
Use at your own risk!

I receive quite a few emails asking questions that are answered in this FAQ. Please consult this guide before emailing me for help.

I developed the tool for use with my Samsung A500. The tool is compatible with most PCS Vision-enabled phones. Is your phone supported? Give it a try!

The file formats currently supported are: JPEG/.jpg, PNG/.png, WBMP/.wbmp, QCELP/.qcp, MIDI/.mid, PMD/.pmd and MMF/.mmf.

Please be sure to use lowercase file extensions (.jpg, .mid, etc.) For best results, avoid filenames with spaces.

Your phone must have PCS Vision service to use this tool.

If you're using a Samsung N400, you will have to enter the URL manually. The text message link won't work for you. A popup window will give you the download URL.

You can list your current uploaded files by entering the following URL:
www.t1mmy.net/cgi-bin/visionLinks.cgi?recipient=9999999999
note: replace the recipient number with your phone number

For best performance, keep your file sizes small. The upload file size limit is 1024k (1mb). Depending on your plan, you may be charged by Sprint for data transfers.

All uploaded files must have unique filenames. If you attempt to upload a new or modified file with the same name as a file you've previously uploaded, you will see no difference, even if you've deleted the file from your phone.

The screen size on your phone is much smaller than your computer, so images must be resized to fit the tiny display. Images larger than this size will be cropped by your phone. In some cases, if the image is too large, the phone will encounter an error. This is the most common problem experienced by users of the visionTool.

Common Phones and viewable screen sizes:
  • Samsung A500 128x112
  • Sanyo 5300 132x129
  • Sanyo 5500 120x170
  • Sanyo PM-8200 132x160

Uploaded files will be available for download to your phone for up to 24 hours after upload.

WAV files are not supported on the A500, but it does support a format developed by Qualcomm called QCP, also supported by the visionTool. For information on QCP (QCELP) files and converting WAVs to QCP, check out Qualcomm's PureVoice application. The original file must be a 16-bit PCM format WAV. I'm no expert on WAVs or this tool, so don't look to me for support.

If you're having problems uploading/downloading, etc., please make sure you've followed the directions first.

Please do not email me asking for the source code. The service is free, but I do not intend to sell or share the code. Many people have developed their own similar applications. If you'd like to try, you can learn everything you need to know at developer.sprintpcs.com

Enjoy and good luck!
